Tom Karsch, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Turner Classic Movies, presented Darrell Raby with the 2006 TCM Young Film Composers Competition grand prize award at the ceremony on Friday, August 4, at the Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles. Joining Karsch in the presentation was Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer, who will mentor Raby and served as a judge in the competition, and Mark Northam, publisher of Film Music Magazine, a co-sponsor of the competition. As one of five finalists among more than 650 aspiring film composers who entered this year's competition, Raby received a $10,000 grand prize and the opportunity to provide a full score for the TCM premiere of Tod Browning's 1927 melodrama THE SHOW, about a Budapest sideshow.
